OPPORTUNITIES
There are 3 specific volunteer opportunities at any of our 36 volunteer fire/Ems companies in Prince George’s County. You’ll be able to volunteer in the area you are most comfortable with and where you feel you’ll contribute the most and benefit from the overall volunteer experience.
VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER/EMT
Fire/EMS volunteers are cross-trained as Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Training for these courses is free and takes place throughout the county and region at convenient times for volunteers with varying schedules, including evening, weekend and summer courses.
VOLUNTEER EMT OR PARAMEDIC
If you truly enjoy helping people in medical emergency situations – nursing/medical school/PA students, we’re talking to you!
In cooperation with the State of Maryland and Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, we’ll train you in CPR and to be an Emergency Medical Technician. EMT training is provided free with classes held throughout the area at convenient times, including evenings and weekends. You can even enhance your skills by becoming a Volunteer Paramedic — many stations offer full or partial tuition reimbursement for your paramedic coursework.
ADMINISTRATIVE OR AUXILIARY VOLUNTEER
These are critical non-operational positions for anyone who does not have the desire to participate directly in operational services, or those who cannot meet the physical demands for serving as a Firefighter/EMT or EMT.
Administrative Volunteers provide administrative and fund-raising support for the operation and the business of our busy volunteer fire and EMS departments. Other duties may include accounting, social media, public relations, maintenance, community education or data entry functions. If you prefer to stay behind the scenes but want to see a little action, some of our stations offer Auxiliary Volunteer positions that provide on scene support including meals, drinks and rehab services to our first responders.
JUNIOR EXPLORER PROGRAM
Some of our fire stations currently offer opportunities for 16-17 year old students.
